"Balinese requiem"
103 min./Color/16mm
Over the course of many years, the Balinese family returns to the grave site of the deceased to remove, purify and burn the bones. This re-burial practice symbolizes the Balinese Hindu world-view about life and death. While many films have presented the ritual of cremation, few have so powerfully illustrated the complex social relationships that weave the living and dead together. ( in English )
