- The Sakhalin Aynu, Sakhalin

The Sakhalin Aynu made dresses, shoes, and containers from the skin of fish such as salmon and trout. Forty to fifty fish were needed to make one fish skin robe. The skin was dried, carefully tanned, and stitched. The Sakhalin Aynu were highly sophisticated in their use of fish skin in both manufacturing techniques and finished art.
