- Osumi, Kagoshima Prefecture

In the autumn festival of the Iwakawa Hachiman Shrine in Osumi, Kagoshima Prefecture, the Yagorodon giant leads the procession in honor of the Hachiman god. This large figure, made of woven bamboo and wearing a wooden mask, is paraded around the town on a four-wheeled cart pulled by children. According to local people, Yagorodon represents either Takenouchi-no-sukune (a legendary hero) or the chief of the Hayato tribe.
