Futamune-zukuri homestead in Okinawa
- HI 0003
- Taketomi Island, Okinawa Prefecture

This type of homestead with separate roofs was once commonly found throughout the Okinawa region, but it is now only rarely seen except on Taketomi Island. The main house, where people slept, was open and well ventilated, with a raised floor. The separate building a short distance from the main house was for cooking. It had few openings, and was dirt-floored. Originally, the stove was built very simply, by arranging three stones in a set pattern.
