Chewing betel is a practice widespread in Southeast Asia. The quid comprises a slice of areca-nut, slaked lime, and gambier wrapped in a leaf of betel-pepper. Utensils for preparing and serving betel ingredients have been developed; many of those utensils are finely crafted.
