Benuaq tomb

Benuaq people perform a complicated series of funeral rituals, comprising multiple stages between the death and final repose of the remains. When a person of high social status has died, the bones are exhumed after a provisional burial and placed in a coffin atop a column. The intricate carvings on the coffin show the high status of the dead.
