While until now our joint research on corporate culture has mainly addressed themes
such as the salaried worker, company museums and company ceremonies, we also attempted
to conduct specific international comparisons centered on Japan. Building on these
results, we now intend to fully address issues related to globalization. Globalization
is being discussed from various standpoints, including information, telecommunications,
finance and economics. However, while focusing on the cultural aspects of organizations
known as corporations, our research aims to shed light on how companies and the
process of globalization mutually permeate many aspects of each other. First,
we will explicate what kind of recognition was at work in the world views and
values of the cultures during the ages in which the corporate organization achieved
stupendous growth, for example in England during the Industrial Revolution, the
United States at the beginning of the twentieth century and during Japan’s
period of high economic growth. Second, we will conduct empirical investigations
into the roles played by culture in the global-scale corporatization occurring
before our eyes.
