Religious Movements and Transformations in Contemporary India |
| |
Objectives
This project aims to uncover the dynamics of religious movements in contemporary India. In the age of globalization, religious movements, of various faiths including Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, and Buddhism, have engendered massive changes and transformation in Indian society. Previous studies on religious movements in India treat the subject individually with little scope for comparative analysis. This project proposes to analyze the commonalities and differences of the religious movements and investigate their effects on politics, society and culture of contemporary India. |

The Circulation of Contemporary Indian Cultures |
| |
Objectives
The mass culture of India, such as fashion, food, movies, music, and paintings, has been changing both rapidly and fundamentally as globalization makes its impact. Although frequently reported in mass media, this phenomenon has not been fully investigated. Our project sets out to collect and analyze the source materials of Indian mass culture as a necessary step toward exploring its impact on society, economy and politics of India and beyond. |
