Abstracts

Conviviality through “Hip-Hop Edutainment” in Cameroon:
The Power of Entertainment and Education by Hip Hop Musicians for the Multilingual Society

Yanohara Yushi

Present Cameroon was formed by unifying the former French colony and the part of the former English colony in 1961. The trace of the historical background can still be seen in the numerous dimensions of the multilingual society today, such as in the school system, judicial system, politics, music business, etc., which causes several difficulties that the people face to overcome.
The presenter has researched the Hip-Hop music scene in Cameroon through collaborative music-making and music-video-making with both the Anglophone Hip Hop Musicians and the Francophone Hip Hop Musicians.
By analysing the field data collected in Cameroon, this presentation challenges considering the possibility of Hip-Hop Music as a global musical/visual tool for conviviality.
