From the 16th to the 20th centuries, Europe was the center from which Christianity and modern institutions, techonologies, and knowledge spread around the world. Now the tide has turned, and immigrants from all over the world are making themselves part of European society. Here we explore the interactions of tradition and religion, rationalization and industrialization, and immigration in the formation of mordern Europe, focusing on the concept of “time”.
